    On 16th May 2012, The Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU),Dr. Javad Mottaghi made a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Tourism, Arts and Culture and the President of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference,Uza. Mariyam Mizna Shareef. During the visit, Uza. Shareef conveyed the need for training of broadcasters in the Republic of Maldives, especially in the area of content development by public service broadcasters to effectively address key social and developmental issues in a creative and engaging manner. Dr. Mottaghi expressed a willingness to provide expertise and funding for the development of broadcast training facilities for local broadcasters.

    On the 13th of May 2012, The Honorable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor attended as the Chief Guest for the Inauguration Ceremony of the Apprentice Program held by One and Only Reethi Rah Resort at Nasandhura Palace Hotel. Minister Adeeb gave away the Certificate of Achievement to the Apprentice class of 2009/2010/2011.Mr.Hussain Afeef, the Assistant Director for Training and Quality Assurance said that a Hotel School will be opened in May 2012 at One and Only Reethi Rah Resort. He also informed that more programs related to Tourism Sector will be given at the Hotel School. In the speech delivered by Minister Adeeb, he expressed hopes that more and more youth will join the tourism industry. The Minister underscored the importance of Maldivian youth to be educated in greater detail about how they can contribute to the tourism sector, as well as make the sector work for them. Furthermore, Minister Adeeb said that it is vital that a hotel school is established that gives quality education to foster more youth into the tourism and hospitality industry.

    The Honorable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor attended the Zone 2 final match of the Inter Resort Volleyball Championship held at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa on the 12th of May 2012. The Final match was played between Taj Exotica Resort & Spa and Jumeirah Vittaveli Maldives.After the match Minister Adeeb gave away the “Tourism Minister’s” trophies to the Champion team Taj Exotica.
