Tourism Ministers meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives
Honorable Minister Adeeb met with the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, H.E Mr. Yu Hongyao. Ambassador Hongyao congratulated the Minister on his appointment as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The purpose of this meeting was to find ways to further strengthen the relation between Maldives and China through tourism. During this meeting, Minister Adeeb explained that the political turbulence over the past couple of days has neither affected nor harmed any tourist visiting the Maldives. He further explained that no matter how much the political views differ, everyone have the same goal for the tourism industry of Maldives. Chinese Cultural Show was held last night to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China. The Honorable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, was the Chief Guest of this event. Many different cultural items were performed by the China Guangdong Art Troupe. This event is organised by the National Center for the Arts in collaboration with the Embassy of China.

One of the pioneers of tourism in Maldives, Mr. Ahmed Ismail Manik passed away yesterday, whilst being treated at Nawaloka Hospital in Sri-Lanka.
Since the introduction of tourism in Maldives, in 1972, Late Ahmed Ismail Manik has served and contributed towards the sustainable growth of the industry, for which he has received awards such as the National Award of Recognition in 1997 and National Award of Honour in 2005. He also received an award from the Ministry of Tourism, in recognition of his role in pioneering the tourism industry in the Maldives. - 2012-01-12 00:00:00

Minister of Tourism Arts & Culture Dr.Maryam Zulfa is attended the the 17th summit of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (saarc_2011).The summit is going to take place from November 10 to 11 in the country's southernmost atoll of Addu, the first time the eight- nation summit to be held south of the equator. The convention center built for the summit can accommodate 3000 people.

The slow life symposium is an annual event organization by Mr. Sonu Shivdasani who is a passionate environmentalist advocating for solutions as the effects of climate change affects our fragile eco-systems. Minister of Tourism Arts & Culture Dr Mariyam Zulfa attends wedding of Mr Ettore Mocchetti and Ms Maria Teresa Palmisano.
Ettore Mocchetti is an architect from Italy and the Editor of Architectural Digest Italy. He has designed several resort projects in Italy as well as Maldives.
The wedding was held in Ostuni, Italy on 3rd September 2011. During her trip to Italy the Minister was also invited to visit the historic town of Matera, a UNESCO heritage listed town.

Workshop on the Development of a Strategic Human Resource Plan for the Tourism Industry (12th September 2011)
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme has conducted a 01 day workshop on 12th September 2011 to discuss the Draft Strategic Human Resource Plan with the Tourism Sector. The Draft plan had been prepared by Human Resources consultant Mr. Wouter Schalken. The plan includes a Situational Analysis and the Human Resource Demand and Supply forecast of the Tourism Industry.
The attendees of the workshop included 101 resort participants, 05 tourism related associations and 08 government stakeholders.
A draft of the detailed strategic plan will be shared with all participants and comments sought, after which the plan will be submitted to the National Planning Council for endorsement as an official policy document.- 2011-08-12 08:00:00

Both these missions are under the Employment and Enterprise Development for Women and Youth project of UNDP.

A three day workshop commenced yesterday in Male’ in collaboration with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Division (TVET) of the Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports. This workshop is part of an initiative taken by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture in order to certify in-house courses conducted at resorts/hotels. The purpose of the workshop is to train assessors in order to carry out competency based trade testing through TVET Qualifications. 16 applicants from 10 resorts are participating along with other individuals. The Maldivian delegation comprises of 181 participants representing 78 companies and 5 officials from the MMPRC. Statistical details from ITB 2011 reveal that with the total Exhibition area of 160,000 m2, a total of 11, 163 exhibitors together with 169,295 Visitors and 110,791 Trade Visitors.

Commissioner of Police the Hon. Mr Ahmed Faseeh, Deputy Commissioner Mohamed Rishwan and 12 senior Regional Heads came to the Ministry of Tourism Arts & Culture on 9th December to make a presentation on the Police Protocol.
The Minister of Tourism Arts & Culture Hon. Dr Mariyam Zulfa and senior officials of the Ministry took part in this meeting. Every resort is to nominate a name as a focal point to co-ordinate with the Ministry and Maldives Police Service. Please send in your nomination either via mail, fax or email.
