Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture signs MOU for STEP Apprenticeship Programs
Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture jointly with Ministry of Human Resources, Youth & Sports together with TVETA (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority; from under the Ministry of Education) are aiming to conduct apprenticeship programs under the name STEP standing for Skills Training and Employment Program.
STEP is a national apprentice program is targeted to Youth who are interested to enhance their skills at various areas by undergoing an on the job apprentice program, typically taking place at Tourist Resorts and other Tourist Facilities thereby making a collaborative effort to create more educational awareness among the youths in the tourism sector.
The main objectives included are to educate and create awareness of the various job opportunities available within the tourism sector, and to ultimately increase the local staff percentage in the largest contributing industrial sector to our economy. The Programs also cater to increase career developments within the industry, as well as to open more opportunities for youths especially for the women in the tourism industry.
The first phase is currently under way, starting with a 3-month orientation program, followed by a second phase with duration of 6-9 months whereby participants will be able to specialize in specific departments and sub sectors. At the end of the program, participants will be certified with a nationally recognized certificate.- 2013-01-27 15:00:00

Minister of State for Tourism, Arts & Culture – Ahmed Shameem departed for the East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT) last week . The fair took place in Istanbul, Turkey from the 24th-27th of this month once again exceeding with a new record of participants with over 4,500 local and foreign tourism companies for 70 different countries.
Municipalities who want to stand out in the world and in Turkey, development agencies, tourism companies and industry professionals show up on a regular basis at EMITT Fair every year, and for a tourism destination such as Maldives this would provide industry representatives to exchange and develop new relationships as well as market their products to various markets, and audiences.
