Movement of Tourists
This is to inform all tourist establishments to follow the “Guideline for restarting tourism” effective from 15th July 2020.
Tourists should have a confirmed booking at a registered tourist facility before arrival to Maldives which is also required for processing visa. All tourist establishments must obtain a permit for re-opening from 15th July 2020, even if the resort has remained in operation before this date.
The entire holiday must be booked in a single tourist establishment except for transit purposes. Movement of tourists to another tourist establishment or split booking during their holiday is not allowed unless special permission has been obtained strictly before arrival to Maldives.
Hence, the tourist facility must host the guest to the entirety of the stay till date of departure. Tourists should not be left in an airport or another island/location before the date of confirmed departure. It is the responsibility of the tourist establishment to ensure that all requirements of the airline have been met and the guest has a confirmed and scheduled flight before taking the guest to the airport. For any given circumstances, if the guest is unable to fly on the schedule date, the tourist facility must take back the guest or arrange their stay in a transit facility till a date is fixed for departure. We would also like to remind that tourists staying in transit facilities for transit purpose during this post-COVID19 period, are strictly to stay in the hotel or transit facility and not allowed to go out of the hotel.
Tourist resorts that are currently under development are also required to keep proper records of entry and exit of staff and laborers to the island and follow HPA guidelines.
The purpose of these guidelines is to ensure movement of tourists are confined to one tourist establishment which will help to ensure safety for all tourists and staff.
